Wisdom of the Ages
There's a major demographic shift happening in today's workforce we can't ignore. 10 million+ Americans over 65 are employed, and that number will rise to 15 million by 2032. The 65+ crowd is the fastest growing segment of the labour market.
More experienced professionals are staying in the workforce longer. 27% of those aged 65-74 are actively job hunting, up from 20% in 2002.
By 2032, 1 in 4 US workers will be over 55. Germany, Italy and Japan already have workforces where over 25% are 55+.
This presents a tremendous opportunity.
83% of older workers say feeling "useful" is more important than feeling "youthful." They have rich experience, institutional knowledge, and time-tested skills we would be unwise to overlook.
How can we better engage this deep pool of talent? Are we adapting to attract and retain veteran staff? Do we have initiatives to transfer knowledge between generations?
The wisdom of experience is all around us if we know where to look. With care and creativity, we can build an age-diverse workforce that lifts us higher. The future belongs to those who embrace the gifts each generation offers. Let's tap into this abundant resource.
